Diocesan museum of the cathedral and Etruscan tunnels of Chiusi

The Diocesan Museum of the Etruscan cathedral and tunnels of Chiusi (Siena) was established in 1932 by mons. Giuseppe Conti, bishop of Chiusi-Pienza (1917 – 1941). In 1984, during the episcopate of mons. Alberto Giglioli (1986 – 2000), was enlarged and renovated according to modern museum criteria.

In 1990 it was further enlarged with the opening of four new halls in the Bishop’s palace, to exhibit and preserve other works from parishes of the diocese of Chiusi, Subsequently the underground route, called Labirinto di porsenna, was opened, that through the Etruscan tunnels, leads to the Etruscan-Roman cistern and the climb to the bell tower.
